Chapter 8: Becoming An Overcomer

Remember your first days when Jesus became real to you.  Your life was filled with joy and a real love for people. You were seeing through His eyes!

Remember when you felt the sorrow of seeing so many loved ones without hope, without the knowledge of the truth – a world without salvation and destined to live for eternity in hell!

He wants us to find that love again – He wants us to live in our “first love” as an overcomer.

“To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”

Revelation 2:7

It is easy to look at life through the eyes of the flesh and miss what is really happening.

If you are enduring financial hardships or other afflictions in your walk with the Lord, it is not without His hand upon you, molding you, sculpting you into the image of His Son.  It is in these conditions that He can prepare you for the Kingdom of God – if you are willing – if you are growing! That is what counts! Endure it for the season and be open to the new doors which these circumstances will open.

The time of testing is only for a season.  If others, even Christians shame and judge you, endure it. Pray for them, for they have not entered into the fullness of the Spirit. They are actually being deceived and still following after their flesh – after the carnal mind. They are deceived by Satan.

Endure and persevere regardless of your circumstances. Your reward will be life, joy and power in the Holy Spirit. Endure regardless of the pain.

Press in! Press in until you reach the Holy of Holies. Press in until you experience the presence of the Lord Himself. Your reward will be life, joy and power in the Holy Spirit.

“He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.” (The second death is eternity in the burning lake of fire.)

Revelation 2:11

Do you embrace people and maintain relationships because of emotional and worldly benefits and overlook the spiritual yoking? Do you tolerate immoral and possession (idol) worshiping individuals because of their power, wealth or enjoyment?

“Don’t you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?”

I Corinthians 5:6

There can be very subtle areas of life where pleasures, places, things and sexual immorality are tolerated and should be eliminated.

What kind of friends do you have? What kind of movies do you watch? The excuses go something like this: “It’s all that was available,” or “They’re the only friends I’ve got.”

If compromise is making you a “lukewarm” believer, you must make some hard choices. Put on purity of mind in all things, and God will take pleasure in supplying all your needs; and that includes spiritual, financial and intimate fellowship needs as well. Overcome in your personal affairs and relationships, and watch how God miraculously fills the voids when you are obedient.

The sin of sexual immorality is one of Satan’s greatest enticements. Today, sexual pleasure has become a part of nearly every form of entertainment.

“Jezebel” can be the collective world of entertainment which we tolerate. It gets worse every year. Our world is like the frog who lived in a pot of heated water. Every year the heat of the water was increased by one degree. The frog never realized the increase in temperature because it was so small and so gradual. Eventually, the water reached the boiling point, and the frog was cooked to death.

Has the temperature in your moral standards increased? Have you been seduced into immoral sexual behavior?  Have you justified your pleasure with the sweet, seductive words of a “Jezebel”?

In I Kings, Ahab, king of Israel, married Jezebel, and she seduced him into the worship of the pagan god Baal.  Your “Jezebel” can be a boy, girl, man or woman.  “Jezebel” is the “seducing spirit” whose sweet words tantalize the flesh of the natural man and compromise the holiness of Jesus “in” you.

The Scriptures tell us:

“Judgment must begin at the house of God”

I Peter 4:17

Judgment is coming upon the “sleeping” church and the world as well. Those who refuse to wake up and repent and become holy towards the Lord God Almighty will endure the consequences. They will miss the wedding banquet of the Lamb!

“To him who overcomes and does My will to the end, I will give authority over the nations – he will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery – just as I have received authority from My Father.

I will also give him the Morning Star. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Revelation 2:26-29

Little things – many times little things done for little people are the greatest deeds accomplished for the Father.

Remember your loved ones. Pray for them. Bless them daily. They deserve all your love and understanding.

Overcome in the little things of life, and He will empower you with strength in the larger things as well.

“To whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.”

Revelation 3:19

“He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before My Father and His angels. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Revelation 3:5,6

The Consequence of Sin

Beloved, it is so easy to miss the truth of life when everything is falling into place – when your needs are met and life becomes comfortable.

Have you created a safe haven from people who challenge your understanding of salvation? Have you insulated yourself through your comforts and lifestyle? Have you insulated yourself from messages that challenge your heart and convict your conscience? If you have, you are playing “suicide” with your soul! If your spirit is not challenged and fed, it is dying a slow death!

“If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it.

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”

Matthew 16:24-26

God says, “Wake up before you can no longer hear the Spirit calling. Wake up and save yourself from the lie of the enemy. He deceives you with your comforts!”

Lay bare your self-righteous condition, and give title of all your possessions to Jesus – and He will save you and bless you for trusting Him.

Prepare yourself for the pain of growing. There is no escaping the discipline of the Lord if you are to be a son. There are no exceptions!

“To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

Revelation 3:21-22
