Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven

Imagine the entrance to the Kingdom of Heaven as a door to a beautiful, palatial garden. You come to Jesus who is “the way and the truth and the life.” You receive His forgiveness of sin, and He opens the door to eternity. You then look in at all the wonderful beauty. You remain there as a faithful Christian, attending church, serving and tithing, learning the truths of Scripture as the years and decades pass by – looking and learning of all the beauty of Heaven but never truly
entering in and experiencing it — never touching its beauty or walking in His intimacy and power.

That is what happens when you remain at the Door of Salvation and do not discover all that Jesus has made available. Beloved, the Father is revealing to you that the Kingdom of Heaven only begins with your “born-again” experience. The Door of Eternity has been opened, but there is a condition given: a key of obedience that God makes available to all who receive Him. This key allows you to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus made a way for each one of us to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and experience the supernatural presence of God.

Most believers in the Christian church have no idea that they can actually enter the Kingdom of Heaven. They have not been taught that there is more to salvation than becoming “born-again.” They believe only what they have experienced.

The truth is that Jesus is coming back for “wise virgins” who are looking for Him. Jesus is coming back for a “bride” who is intimate with Him… a bride who has made herself ready for Him.

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.”

Revelation 19:7

The keys to His Kingdom are offered to everyone… They are especially important to you who are living in this “last days” generation… you who will still be alive when the trumpet of the harvest sounds… you who will still be alive at the rapture!

The-Trumpet-Call-Print

Jesus gives every one of us the truth of His kingdom to embrace, to act on and to take by faith. Jesus Himself told us that there was more than one key to the Kingdom of Heaven:

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 16:19

Jesus reveals the keys in the Gospels

Keys-Repentance

In the Gospel of John, the Key of Repentance gives you the gift of salvation – the gift of being “born-again.”

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 3:3 (KJV)

Jesus clearly explains that a person who has become “born-again” is only able to “see” the Kingdom of Heaven.

Keys-Surrender

Jesus gave a second condition – the Key of Surrender — for those who would be able to enter the Kingdom.

“Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

John 3:5 (KJV)

The water is symbolic of Jesus who is the “Word made flesh” – He is the “Water of Life.” The Holy Spirit is spoken of as another birth, or the “baptism of the Spirit,” which allows entry into the Kingdom of God.

Jesus was careful to identify a distinction between seeing and entering the Kingdom of God.

The First Key opens the Door… the Second Key ushers you into the Kingdom of Heaven.

The First Key enables you to learn of the Kingdom of Heaven…
the Second Key empowers you to enter His Kingdom and hear His voice.

The First Key is the Key of Repentance.
The Second Key is the Key of Surrender.

This is the truth of life you were created for.

Jesus illustrates the keys in the Gospel of Matthew

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus again reveals the keys to His Kingdom in the parable of the “wise and foolish virgins.” This parable shows the difference between believers who were expecting to be wed to Him and those who were prepared to be wed to Him. Disciples asked Jesus “…what shall be the sign of thy coming, and the end of the world?”

Jesus replied:

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”

Matthew 25:1-13 (KJV)

In this parable, Jesus is speaking about believers (virgins). They knew Him, knew that He was the Bridegroom and that He was returning for a bride. When the prophet Jeremiah spoke of the last days, he also referred to those who would be ready as “virgins.”

“Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.”

Jeremiah 31:13

Jesus makes a profound revelation in this remarkable parable. All the virgins had “lamps.” The lamp is symbolic of having received Jesus. Jesus is the Lamp! We know this from the book of Revelation:

“…the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light.”

Revelation 21:23,24 (NIV)

Jesus said they all had lamps… they were all “born-again.” They all, by faith, had received the Key of Repentance. They all had lamps that were lit at their conversion experience. Jesus then says that before His return, the believers become sleepy and fall asleep. He is illustrating a time when believers have compromised their walk in the Word and have become complacent. The light of their lamps have grown dim and, for most, have gone out. Complacency toward the Word of God has been replaced with the things of the world.

It is a time of great darkness. Christians become filled with compromise. The Light of Truth becomes a glowing ember, while the world becomes filled with its glittering lights and consuming pleasures.

Jesus identifies this time of His return as “midnight.” It is a time of moral darkness: a time when the lust of the flesh and the pride of life has grown rampant in the world. It is a time when “believers” have left their first love and have forsaken the food for their Spirit, which is the Word of God. It is midnight, the time of day when it is darkest. Does this not look like the world we live in today?

Jesus is showing you that there is something you must receive in order to keep your “lamp” lit – or in fact, reignite it if it has gone out. Jesus is showing you that there is a Second Key, the Key of Surrender that brings the infilling of the Holy Spirit and fills your “jar” (your spirit).

The wise virgins had the “Oil of His Presence.” The wise virgins were ushered into the Kingdom of Heaven. The foolish virgins had not embraced all that Jesus had said to them.

Jesus had met them, but He didn’t know them. He was never intimate with them. They did not desire all that God offers His children. His Holy Spirit had not filled them. They had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (God’s heavenly starter fluid for their lamp) which comes when you receive Jesus as your Savior. They did not have the power to “overcome” – the power that comes with the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

It is only when you truly love Him, make Him Lord of your life and obey His Word that He is able to give you all that He has promised. The infilling of the Holy Spirit empowers you to be healed from your sinful nature as you feed on — and obey — the Word of God.

The First Key, the Key of Repentance is a step of faith. The Second Key, the Key of Surrender is an act of love and obedience. The First Key enables you to read and learn the Word of God; it shows you the way to the Kingdom of Heaven. The Second Key empowers you to consume the Word and hear God’s voice; it ushers you into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Beloved, ask God to help you receive the “baptism” of the Holy Spirit. He will surely answer your prayer and make a way.

Becoming as a “Little Child.”

The Key of Surrender empowers you to become as a little child.

“Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:3

Are you born again? Then you are converted, right? Of course you are. So what is Jesus saying “… unless you be converted, and become as little children, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” Here lies the most wonderful and joyful “truth of Life.” Jesus said:

“He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

Matthew 10:39

The truth is that we all suffer from the sin of “self.” It is self that keeps us proud and ignorant. It is self that makes us too dignified to give glory to God with all of our being. It is self that makes us independent and self-sufficient. It is self that is the enemy of your soul! So how can you possibly overcome such a powerful force that has embedded itself in your nature for such a long time? The power to overcome your “self” comes with the Key of Surrender.

Becoming as a “little child” empowers you to receive the Gifts from Heaven.

Fruit of the Spirit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Galatians 5:22

Gifts of the Spirit

“The Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Receiving your “Heavenly Language.”

The Key of Surrender empowers you to be able to make supplication and pray with understanding — and to worship and pray in God’s Heavenly Language. It is called praying in “tongues.” It is the power of praying perfect prayer.

The Scriptures tell us that the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. He empowers you to pray God’s perfect will in all things. It is in your surrendered heart that the Father is free to work and will as He pleases in your life. By knowing, believing and trusting, you become safe and secure as a little child in the arms of the Father. This is what it means to become a “child” of God.

“But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

John 1:12

Now is the time

Are you ready to step into the wonder and beauty of God’s Kingdom? If you are, you must desire it… you must ask for it… and you must act on it. You must surrender all to Jesus! You must want and desire Him and His will more than anything else in life. This is why you were born! This is why you were created in the first place… to have fellowship and intimacy with your Creator.
